Gigrin Farm

Renowned for its Red Kite Feeding Centre, attracts visitors from around the world. Located half a mile from Rhayader, hundreds of Red Kites feed here every day. It’s a breathtaking spectacle and is the best place in the UK to see and photograph hundreds of wild Red Kites, including rare leucistic Red Kites.

PROBLEM

Gigrin Farm’s existing website wasn’t converting high traffic into ticket and workshop sales. While the site received positive reviews and plenty of visitors, the design was outdated and unappealing. The website resembled a Word document rather than a professional platform, failing to showcase the stunning photography regularly taken by professionals at the centre.

Gigrin Farm is famous for its red kite feeding and photography opportunities, yet visitors often didn’t realise the breadth of experiences available, including photography workshops, viewing hides, and other facilities. This lack of awareness and an uninspiring online presence created a significant barrier to ticket sales and broader engagement. Dominique from Gigrin Farm sought Pixelhaze’s help to address these issues by revamping the design, streamlining the site’s functionality, and better reflecting the high-quality experiences offered at the centre.

SOLUTION

Working with Gigrin Farm through a series of web design workshops. Building on Gigrin Farm’s existing identity, we introduced a new colour palette to play on the rustic feel that aligned with the farm. We also updated the typography to expand on this.

Collaborating with local photographer Ruth Rees, we captured not only the majestic red kites but also the venue itself, showcasing the excellent facilities that visitors could enjoy. This allowed the website to reflect the full Gigrin Farm experience, from workshops to hide.

Using Squarespace and our proprietary product, Square Forge, we rapidly prototyped the website alongside Dominique. This approach allowed for real-time feedback and a collaboration meaning the final design met the brief.
